Summary

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a series about a boy who finds out his dad is Poseidon, the god of the sea.  Percy’s friend, Luke, decides he wants to be on Kronos’s team and becomes evil.  Kronos wants Luke’s body to be his new body, but Luke refuses.  Kronos doesn’t take “no” for an answer. Read how Percy and his best friends, Annabeth and Grover, try to get Luke back. 

Recommendation

I highly recommend this series to anybody who likes action and adventure.  It is one of the best series I have ever read.  After you have read the Percy Jackson series read The Lost Hero.  It has all the Percy Jackson characters in it, plus a few more.

Esperanza Rising Review - by Cassie

  Esperanza Rising is a great book by Pam Munoz Ryan. It is about a girl named Esperanza who lived with her father, her mother, her Abuelita, and their servants in a wonderful ranch in Mexico. The ranch was called El Rancho de las Rosas.  Esperanza and her family were very wealthy. She had a great life and everything she ever wanted. She was happy and loved everyone around her.  But, she wasn’t expecting that the night before her birthday her Papa didn’t come home from the fields.  Esperanza’s family and servants waited and waited. Finally, after hours of waiting, they heard footsteps.  They ran outside and the servant, who was driving, looked at them sadly.  Her Papa had been killed by some sort of gang.  Her Papa had willed everything they owned to his brother Tio Luis.  But Tio Luis wasn’t a very good man. He told Mama that if she didn’t marry him she couldn’t live at the ranch anymore.  So, after close to a week, Esperanza, Mama, and the servants, who were like family to Mama and Esperanza, all hurried to California where they found jobs working in the fields. Esperanza wasn’t used to working and Mama got horribly sick. Will Mama get better?  Will Esperanza ever adjust to her new home or will she return to her home in Mexico?  Read this wonderful book and see for yourself.
